At Beverly Hills Wellness Center & Med Spa, we believe that the journey to rejuvenation extends beyond the treatment chair. Whether you are visiting us in West Palm Beach for a subtle lip enhancement with Versa or restoring cheek volume with Juvederm Voluma, the steps you take before and after your appointment are vital.
Achieving that effortless, "Beverly Hills" aesthetic requires a partnership between our expert injectors and your commitment to proper care. Whether it is your first dermal filler treatment or you are a seasoned patient, navigating the dos and don'ts can sometimes feel confusing. To ensure your results are nothing short of spectacular, we have curated this essential guide to pre and post-treatment care.
Preparing for Your Appointment
Preparation is the secret to a seamless experience and minimal downtime. Here is how to prep your skin and body for the best possible outcome:
Be Mindful of Your Travel Schedule: If you are jet-setting out of Palm Beach International, timing matters. We recommend avoiding dermal filler treatment within 48 hours of scheduled air travel. It is very important to be able to return to the office for a follow-up if needed immediately following this treatment.
Pause if You Are unwell: Wellness is our priority. If you have had a recent sinus infection, cough, COVID, UTI, or other illness, we highly encourage taking some time to rest and recover. Recent illnesses can cause undesired swelling and side effects following a dermal filler treatment. We recommend rescheduling your appointment for two full weeks after your symptoms have fully resolved to ensure the best treatment outcome.
Skip the Wine: While we love a celebratory glass of champagne, alcohol "thins" the blood and can lead to an increased risk of bruising. We suggest skipping alcoholic drinks for 24 hours before and after treatment, which can go a long way in preventing bruises from injectable treatments.
Review Your Medications: Blood thinners such as aspirin, Aleve, Advil, and Motrin affect platelets in the bloodstream, which can inhibit clotting and lead to easy bruising. Avoiding these medications for 48 hours before and 24 hours after treatment will help prevent easy bruising. However, please note that we never recommend skipping any medications prescribed by your primary care provider.
Time Your Workout: For our fitness-focused patients in West Palm Beach, we recommend going to the gym or taking a class early in the morning on the day of your treatment. Try to end your workout at least one hour before your appointment. This allows your heart rate and blood pressure time to return to normal, which can decrease your risk of bruising.
Aftercare: Protecting Your Investment
Once you have received your treatment—whether it is Restylane for tear troughs or Radiesse for jawline definition—proper aftercare ensures the product settles beautifully.
Rest Your Body: While we encourage an active lifestyle, we advise against exercise within 24 hours after receiving dermal fillers.
Wait on Makeup: Applying makeup immediately after dermal fillers can lead to irritation of the skin and infection of the filler. We recommend waiting 12 hours after treatment to apply makeup, especially foundation and contouring products. For the most seamless experience, arrive at our office with a clean, makeup-free face.
Delay Facials and Massage: It is recommended to avoid facial massage for at least two weeks following dermal filler treatment. This is especially important to note if you are prepping for upcoming special events, such as weddings or vacations.
Monitor Your Skin: It is very important to monitor your skin after treatment. Although extremely rare, if you experience skin paleness or discoloration, the area feels hot or cool to the touch, or you have severe pain, call our office immediately.
Long-Term Results
Finally, remember to protect your investment. The best way to increase the longevity of your dermal fillers is to use effective skincare products and sunscreen between treatments. Dehydrated, dull, sun-damaged skin is more prone to static line formation than hydrated, glowing, sun-protected skin. A regimen including a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, retinol, and SPF can go a long way in protecting your skin barrier and maintaining a youthful, vibrant glow.
